Hand Reading or Quiromancy

Hand Reading, also popularly known as Quiromancy, is a form of divination using the signs found on the palms of the hands. To understand it, we start with a walk through its origin and history. Check it out.

Source

The Origin of Hand Reading is uncertain, but it is believed to have started in Ancient India, dating back more than 3,000 years. From there, Hand Reading became popular and spread to countries in the Asian region such as China and Tibet, reaching regions such as Persia, Egypt and Greece.

The practice of Hand Reading involves two distinct and complementary techniques. In the first, called Chiromancy (from the Greek 'kheirós', which means hand and 'manteía', divination), the lines, hills and marks on the hands are analyzed, while Chirology is concerned with deciphering the shape of the hands and fingers.

History

The History of Hand Reading begins in India. According to historical and archaeological records, this practice was quite popular among Indians.

At the time, Hand Reading began when people of a certain social group or with similar personalities began to establish relationships between people of a certain social group or with similar personalities and the similarity they had without their physical features on their faces, hands and feet.

However, much of the History of Hand Reading that is known in the West came from Greece. The Greek philosopher Aristotle detailed hand reading in his work 'The History of Animals'.

It was from his conception that lines are not placed on human hands by chance that the belief that the lines of human hands possessed meanings became widespread.

Elements in hand reading

There are four basic types of hand shapes that are associated with the four elements: Fire, Earth, Air and Water. The elements give the hands their characteristic features and, although the elemental regency is based on Astrology, the element of your hand will not always be equal to the element of your sign. Check below.

Fire

The fire hand is characterized by a long palm with a square or rectangular shape. Its fingers are usually short (a finger is considered short if it has up to about 2/3 of the total size of the palm), with defined mounds and characteristic phalanges. In addition, fire hands are usually flushed or pinkish.

People with a fiery hand are active, adventurous, smart, extroverted, optimistic and self-confident. They are motivated by desires, but even though they are passionate, they end up lacking empathy or tact in dealing with people. In addition, if you have a fiery hand, you probably like to travel and are usually bold and intuitive.

Earth

If you have the hand shape ruled by the Earth element, your palm is square, thick and rigid to the touch. Your fingers are short and have a length similar to the length of your hand. Earth hands are colored, firm, solid and fleshy.

Those with earthy hands have a practical, down-to-earth sense, as well as having characteristics based on logic, responsibility, and having as strengths the execution of tasks and being good at helping leaders.

People with this hand type are not very ambitious and are comfortable with what they have, and can often be considered "accommodating". In addition, they usually have jobs that do not require much technical knowledge. They also have a tendency to develop vertigo and breathing problems.

Air

Air-type hands have square or rectangular palm shapes and are dry to the touch. Their fingers are long and thin, usually with prominent knuckle bones. People with this hand type are curious and intellectual by nature, with innate analytical skills and excellent communication skills.

In addition, this type of hand denotes people who are easily distracted and prone to anxiety and irritation. If you have Air hands, you are curious, imaginative and creative, and for this reason you are often involved in artistic work. In addition, you are open-minded and usually romantic by nature.

Water

Hands ruled by the water element have long palms, soft and moist to the touch, with an oval shape. Their fingers are also long, flexible and have conical shaped tips. The hand of the water element has, as a whole, a narrow appearance.

People with water hands are intuitive by nature, understanding, imaginative, creative and introverted. They are compassionate, extremely sensitive and their feelings are often affected, causing constant stress and interpersonal tensions.

In addition, they are usually fragile and enjoy the arts and beautiful things. Although they are easily hurt emotionally, they are flexible and can easily adapt to change.

Lots in the hand reading

After identifying the type of hand, the next step is to observe the anatomy of the surface of the palms. On the palms, you will notice that there are more or less elevated areas, which we call mounds, which are ruled by an Astro. Read on to understand more about their meanings and types.

What are hills?

Mounds are more or less elevated areas that are part of the natural anatomy of the surface of the hands. Each mound relates to different aspects of life and has a flesher area that can be identified according to the position it is in on the hand.

There are 7 mounts on the hand, which correspond to the seven planets according to Classical Astrology: Apollo (Sun), Moon, Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter and Saturn.

When analyzing a hand for a palmistry consultation, you will notice that rounder and higher mounds reveal characteristics that are balanced or developed, while lowered mounds point out qualities that are not the person's strong suits. Very high mounds indicate exaggerated characteristics.

Mount of Venus

The Mount of Venus is located very close to the base of the thumb. It is connected to characteristics attributed to this star, such as love, attraction and sensuality. The Mount of Venus shows how the person's natural magnetism is, as well as the way they relate or connect emotionally with the subject of romance.

Through the analysis of the Venus mount, you will also get access to characteristics such as sexuality, passion, horniness and even indulgence.

Mount of Jupiter

The Mount of Jupiter is located just at the base of the index finger. This mount indicates characteristics such as ambition, confidence, pride, authority, taste for boasting and aspects related to leadership. In addition, the Mount of Jupiter is associated with the connection to the spiritual world and the divine and its attitudes and aptitudes linked to themes such as spirituality.

People who have a well-developed Mount of Jupiter possess the desire to dominate, rule, and lead, and also have a tendency to work on unusual ideas. As we will show, the Mount of Jupiter can also be identified by being above the Inner Mount of Mars.

Mount of Saturn

The Mount of Saturo is easily located at the base of the middle finger. This area influences characteristics such as wisdom, moral strength, determination, and responsibility. In addition, this mount is linked to integrity, durable possessions, understanding about the cycles of life, and influences prudence, inclination towards occultism and mysticism, and love for solitude.

When it is well developed, the Saturn Mount indicates introspection and a focus on oneself to find wisdom. Furthermore, people with this developed mount are often stuck in their philosophical thoughts about life and death itself, as they find earthly things meaningless and may therefore be prone to depression.

Mount of Apollo

The Mount of Apollo is just below the ring finger. Named after the sun god, this mount corresponds to optimism, vitality and essence. The Mount of Apollo is also associated with the arts, happiness, fame, creativity, honor and success. It also indicates the desire to possess glory and stand out among the crowds.

Possessing a well-developed Hill of the Sun indicates that you attach more importance to prominent positions than money itself. Furthermore, you have inclinations for literature and aesthetics and aim to stand out.

Being idealistic, you are probably not happy in a family because of the different interests of its members.

Mount Mercury

Mount of Mercury is situated below the little finger. This mount is connected with intelligence, communication, oratory skills, eloquence and spontaneity. In addition, it is related to the brain, adaptability to commerce and science, social skills and resourcefulness.

The high Mercury Mount shows an intelligent person who is well versed in the subjects he or she is interested in. These people are good managers and can work in an organized manner, and can find different ways to increase their income. They have an amusing and pleasant humor.

When it is out of balance, it can denote mental instability, nervousness, lack of concentration and even cheating in business.

Moon Mount

The Moon Mount located on the lower part of the hand, on the same side as the little finger. This mount symbolizes imagination, intuition and psychic powers and is also associated with empathy and compassion.

The Moon Mount also represents an artistic temperament and attachment to beauty and romance, and points to a creative and idealistic person. People with this well-developed mount are admirers of the arts and possess aesthetic pleasure.

For this reason, they are usually artists, musicians or writers, as they possess a powerful imagination. Furthermore, they are extremely romantic people, but not in the passionate and sensual way that is dictated by the Mount of Venus.

Inner Mars, outer Mars and the plain of Mars

The Mars Mount is found in three different areas of the palm and therefore has three names: Inner Mars, Outer Mars and Plain of Mars. Being named after the Roman god of war, the Mars Mount has three attributions: aggressiveness, resilience and temperament, each of these is associated with a specific area.

The Inner Mars Mount, also called inner, is located above the thumb and symbolizes physical strength and tenacity. The Outer Mars Mount, or upper, represents emotional bravery and perseverance.

The Plain of Mars, on the other hand, occupies the lower central portion of the palm and indicates how the qualities Inner and Outer Mars Mounts are in balance. Because it is straight, the meaning of the Plain of Mars is determined by the lines that run through this area.

Main lines

There are five main lines on the palm of your hand: Lifeline, Heartline (or Loveline), Fateline (or Moneyline), Headline, and Marriageline. Each of these lines gives further meaning to interpretations of Palmistry because they are associated with specific areas, as we show below.

Heart Line

The Heart Line, also called the Love Line, is the line located just below the fingers of the hand, in the upper part of the palm. From it, it is possible to understand matters of the heart such as feelings, control and emotional reactions. The longer and straighter it is, the better.

When the Heartline is short and straight, it means that the person has little interest in expressing how they feel about love and romance. If it is long, it is indicative of a great lover, probably romantic, sweet and understanding.

If it starts from the index finger, it is a sign of a happy experience in love. If it starts on the middle finger, it shows that you care more for yourself than for your partner.

Head line

The Headline is usually located between the index finger and the thumb, just below the Heartline, and extends to the other side of the palm, as if dividing it into two portions. The Headline shows one's mentality and intelligence.

The clarity, thickness and length of this line is associated with intelligence and concentration. If it is very arched, it is a sign of creativity. When short, it indicates more success with things acquired with your body than with the mind.

If the Head Line has a circle, is cut into two or more parts or even or presents ripples, it is a sign of memory problems, focus and that the person and concentration.

Lifeline

The Lifeline is located below the Headline, usually in the shape of an arc. It points to your journey, revealing your experiences, vitality and enthusiasm.

The thickness of this line determines the richness of your life experience, while its length shows the influence of others on your path rather than the amount of time someone has lived. The shorter it is, the more independence and autonomy you possess.

If the Lifeline is very clear and arched, it means that this person is vibrant and energetic. When it is long, it indicates aptitude for sports. If the Lifeline has a small arch and is close to the thumb, it is a sign that this person tires easily.

Destination line

The Fate Line, or Money Line, is a vertical line in the center of the palm from the wrist to the middle finger. It reveals the degree of out-of-control outside influence that occurs in one's life, as well as issues such as luck and career.

This line tends to change more frequently than the others, so you should always observe it when you have undergone a drastic change in life. If the Fate Line and the Life Line start from the same point, it is a sign that this person is ambitious and has self-confidence.

If it is short, it is a sign that the person will stop working before retirement. If it is clear and straight, it means great future.

Sun line

The Sun Line, also called the Apollo Line, is a vertical line found near the ring finger. This is the line that indicates fame, legacy and public image. It varies greatly in thickness, length and position and, along with the Fate Line, it determines how and when someone will achieve success.

If the Sun Line and the Fate Line cross or are parallel, it is a sign that one's success will be the result of forces that cannot be controlled. If these two lines are far apart, it is an indication that this person's success will depend more on you than on others.

Secondary lines

The Secondary Lines form a group of 5 lines and encompass the Marriage Line, Children's Line, Travel Line and the Bracelet Line. In addition, some people have a sixth, rarer line cutting through the palm. Their description, location and their meanings are given below.

Wedding line

The Marriage Line is found just below the little finger. As the name suggests, it determines marriage and romantic relationships. Some people have one line, while others have several lines. The number of lines indicates peak relationship moments and not necessarily the number of marriages.

If you have 2 lines, it can either mean two marriages or two distinct periods with the same person. If you have several Lines of Marriage without having a main one, your marital life may not be happy.

If your line splits in two, it is a sign that you or your partner will leave the relationship. If it extends to the ring finger, it is a sign that your spouse's family is rich and friendly.

Children's line

The Lines of the Children are those found just above the Marriage Line, in the same direction as the little finger. The number of Lines of the Children indicates the number of children one will have, both biological and adopted.

However, the number of children a couple will actually have is determined by the couple's goodwill and Child Lines, regardless of their gender identity or sexuality.

If you have a long little finger, that is, one which exceeds the beginning of the last phalanx of your ring finger, it indicates good luck for your children. This person will probably have children of the same sex. If you have a short little finger, it is a sign that you will have a daughter.

Travel Line

The Travel Line is a line found in various areas of the hand. Usually this type of line can occur multiple times on the same hand and are seen as branches of the lifeline or horizontal transverse lines on the side opposite the thumb, on the edge of the hand on the little finger side.

They may indicate international travel, especially when they leave the Mount of the Moon. There are also vertical Lines of Travel which stand on the Mount of Venus and indicate travel on home territory. They may also suggest a change of life course, including overseas habitation, although multiple Lines of Travel are unlikely to indicate permanent move overseas.

Bracelet line

The Bracelet Lines, or Rascette Lines, are located just below the palm of the hand, at the joint with the wrist. These lines predict one's life expectancy, health and financial aspects. The more lines, the longer you will live.

The first Bracelet Line represents someone's first 23-28 years of life, the second line represents 46-56 years of life, while the third line is indicative of their 69-84 years of life and a fourth line represents more than 84 years of life.

The first Bracelet Line is also important in determining someone's health. Women with a broken or curved first line will have gynecological or reproductive problems. For men, it indicates prostate and urinary tract problems.

Rare line cutting the palm

The Rare Line crossing the Palm usually happens when the Head Line and the Heart Line are so close together as if there is a single line crossing the palm. In China, it is believed that a man with a rare line crossing the Palm will have a good career, while a woman with this rare line will be independent.

Symbols on the lines

For a more accurate interpretation of someone's hands, it is also necessary to understand about the symbols that may occur in their lines. In the following sections, we present symbols commonly found on the palms such as the cross, the star, and the circle. Learn their meanings below.

Cross

A cross is a sign of long lasting issues and changes in someone's life. Generally, they indicate that there are people causing problems in your life. However, its meaning also depends on the area of the palm in which it appears. When it is on the mount of Jupiter or Venus it is a positive sign.

If it is located on the other mounts, the cross indicates negativity related to the energy of the mount on which it is located. When there is a cross on a main line, it is indicative of a crisis and interruption of a positive phase in the area relative to the line on which it is located.

Crosses may also indicate that outside influences are bringing stress and anxiety into your life, affecting your mental state and spiritual well-being.

Star

Star are marks seen on the palm of the hand that do not fall into a specific category of lines. They indicate a potential or a warning, such as stress, talent, luck, or an event. When they appear on a hill, stars accentuate the meaning of it, both favorably and undesirably.

On Mercury's mount, the star shows a sudden change in business. It may also mean dishonesty. When it is on Saturn's mount, it indicates restriction, confinement, or obstacles, and possible trouble with legal matters. If it is on the Moon's mount, it indicates the possibility of becoming famous in the field of literature. If it is on Venus's mount, it indicates success in love.

They can usually mark a period of luck in your life and will potentiate the positive characteristics of the line or hill on which they appear. On the Heart Line, it is a sign of luck in love. On the Life Line, it indicates long and healthy life. On the Sun Line, it indicates wealth.

Square

Squares are usually formed by mixing different lines of the hand and that cannot be formed by a Main or Secondary Line as they must be independent. It is a mark of protection that can indicate a period of uncertainty or that someone has avoided a period of difficulty.

Circle

The circle has several meanings. If it appears on the Lifeline, it indicates possibility of physical injury and the need to be hospitalized. The larger the size of the circle, the more serious the illness or physical injury. If there is a circle on the Headline, there is difficulty in concentration to conclude ideals.

Grid

The Grid is an intersection of horizontal and vertical lines that usually appear on hills. They are signs of negative influences and represent problems and periods of change in life. They are also signs of confusion and insecurity, and may indicate self-destructive tendencies and challenges that have hindered your progress in life.

Grills can also indicate new beginnings and the problems associated with them. It can also indicate anxiety and fatigue.

Island

Islands are kind of spaces that appear in the lines and hills of the palm and usually indicate dangers or sufferings. In the Mount of Jupiter, an island indicates lack of confidence. In the Saturn Line, it points to many conflicts in life. In the Apollo Hill, it affects areas such as artistic qualities, money and notoriety.

To have an island in the Mount of Mercury is a sign of loss in business. In the Mount of Venus, it indicates separation from the person you love. In the Marriage Line, it is a sign of quarrels and marital problems.

Curiosities

Now that you have read about the types of hands, the mounts, the primary and secondary lines, and the recurring symbols on the palms, you are probably interested in putting your knowledge into practice. In this section, you will have access to some curiosities so that you can practice palmistry right away.

Should I read left or right hand?

Traditionally, Hand Reading involves the interpretation of the lines, hills and signs that are present in the dominant hand, that is, the hand with which you write best. If you are right-handed, your reading should begin with your right hand.

However, it is very common for modern practitioners of this ancient practice to analyze both hands in their readings to understand their life more clearly.

Your non-dominant hand shows your basic tendencies, your unconscious, how you act in different situations and what you are most inclined to do. Your dominant hand shows the strengths and weaknesses in your life. Therefore it is recommended that both hands should be read.

Can hand lines change over time?

Yes. The designs and shapes of the lines of the hands are not fixed, that is, they can change according to the moment of their lives. Therefore, it is important to remember that both hands will undergo by alteration throughout time, indicating that people are capable of changing or are having the possibility of changing their own destinies.

In Palmistry, it is also believed that the dominant hand (the one with which one writes best) represents the present and the future, while the receiving hand represents the past and the traits one was born with.

Therefore, the receiving hand tends to change less. Despite the changes, the lines shown throughout this article are easily identified, regardless of the age of the consulter.

Is hand reading accurate?

If done properly, a Hand Reading can be accurate, but usually it is not. This is because the destination is not determined by the lines, but indicated by them. In other words, if you are determined enough or even lucky enough, you can change it.

This is not to say that Hand Reading is a weak divinatory practice. On the contrary, by reading your fortune in the palms of your hands, you will see your talents and potentialities to use them to your advantage. Also, you can know about your weaknesses so you can improve them and have more quality of life.

Since the lines of your hands change over time, you have the opportunity to forge the life you want. From this perspective, Hand Reading is essential for becoming aware of the life you want to have, as it offers the light to illuminate the path ahead of you and the opportunity to fight for a better future.
