Sacred meaning of the stones for Umbanda

Since the dawn of humanity, stones and crystals have enchanted people by the unique shine and beauty that each one of them presents. They have always been a symbol of status and power, however in some religions, such as Umbanda, they have a very different value.

When observing history, it is easy to see the value attributed to each of these gems, but for religious beliefs, they go beyond aesthetics. Read on to learn how stones work within Umbanda.

How the stones work in Umbanda

Stones are attributed certain mystical properties, such as the ability to channel specific energies and confer certain powers and blessings to their users. Because they are able to channel energies, umbandistas make use of precisely this power to attract and capture specific types of mystical energies.

As they are considered part of mother nature and a gift to humanity, they may be in tune with the energy of some entities, such as the preto velho, for example. What little is known is that there is a ritual for energizing and cleaning the stones, which you will know how to do below.

How to energize the stones in Umbanda

When we talk about cleaning, we are talking about energetic cleaning, but physical cleaning can also be done. Before energizing the crystals, it is important to clean them with water and mild soap to remove dust and dirt. But do not use chemicals, because they can react with the crystals that are sensitive. After cleaning the stones physically, it's time to discharge the energy.

Make use of natural running water:

- Place the crystals in a cotton bag;

- Hold them tight and leave them immersed in natural running water for a little while;

- Make sure the water is not polluted;

Note: Some crystals that cannot are apophyllite, pyrite, bauxite, bornite, cassiterite, sulfur, hematite, black tourmaline, galena, selenite, hematite, lapis lazuli, calcite, malachite, howlite, turquoise and cyanite.

With rock salt:

- Place your stones in a glass container;

- Cover with water;

- Add the coarse salt;

- Leave on for 3 to 24 hours;

- After soaking, rinse it well under running water and let it dry in sunlight or moonlight;

Crystals that can: quartz, amethyst, citrine, rose quartz, smoky quartz, jasper, agate, chalcedony, cornaline, aventurine and onyx

Crystals that can not (in addition to those that can not go in water): halite, selenite, plaster, desert rose, aqua aura quartz (treated), amber, azurite, topaz, moonstone, opal, selenite, red coral and chrysoprase, chrysocolla.

Note: Some people indicate sea salt, but it is not ideal because it can damage the stones when it comes into contact with the particles. Therefore, use coarse salt!

Coarse dry salt:

For crystals that cannot come into contact with water, the ideal is to clean them with coarse dry salt. In a container, make a layer of coarse salt and place the crystals on top. Leave it for two hours or for as long as you deem necessary.

With other crystals:

For crystals that cannot have contact with water, it is recommended to clean them with a drusa or selenite. The drusa is a grouping of stones, which can be amethyst. Just put the crystal on top and leave it for two hours.

Selenite is a stone that performs energy cleansing, just like salt. The ideal is to leave the crystals on top of the selenite from 5 to 10 minutes.

The stones that represent Exu and Pomba Gira

Exu and Pomba Gira are important parts and very well known (wrongly) in Umbanda. They also have their representations. Exu is represented by the ruby stone, which helps physical attraction, improves sexual performance and communication. The ruby stone also has high power of protection, by bringing vibrations that work as a shield.

As for Pomba Gira, fire agate. Fire agate is a powerful stone that possesses a powerful energy that gets in tune with the red flame of the spiritual will, being able to propel us forward in front of any situation.

What is the importance of stones for Umbanda?

It is easy to see that stones are of great value to Umbanda and, above all, to Umbanda practitioners, because together with herbs and other elements of the religion, the connection between entities and believers becomes much better. Furthermore, stones are capable of improving all the important aspects of our lives, which contributes to a better performance and spiritual evolution.

For this reason, the use of these crystals is indispensable within the religion. They are able to protect us, connect us with nature, clean our magnetic field and drive away any negative energy. It is fair - if not necessary - to emphasize that stones are the main pillars of Umbanda and that without them and the herbs nothing works.

Those who want to be in harmony with Umbanda, with their orixás and find protection can and should choose to wear a necklace, a chain or leave a crystal at home. This way, besides staying connected with your protectors, you will be protected and will protect the environment.
